Who are the Noveau Riche
Normally people who are rich have earned all their wealth by working or they have inherited it legally. But there is this class of people very popularly known as the nouveau riche who are people who have earned or inherited money very recently and who till then were not known to be rich by themselves or by their family. The word is in fact French and literally it means “new money”. Hence, the class of people who have suddenly becomes rich are known as the nouveau riche. They symbolize the “rags to riches” story and in most cases have earned their wealth by sheer hard work and luck. And behind every nouveau riche, family there is sure to be some highly intriguing tale to tell as to how thy came to acquire the wealth. Though wealthy, the nobles were not referred to as nouveau riche as they were rich by virtue of inheritance rather than becoming rich by a quirk of fate. So, since the nobles had inherited the old money passed down the generations and they did not become rich suddenly and hence they were not referred to as noveau riche. In contrast to olden days the nouvea riche of today not only are wealthy but also wield tremendous amount of power, are highly qualified academically and have achieved a lot professionally.
